Mindfulness Meditation and Cognitive Therapy
My bespoke 6-week course is designed to help you learn new ways of handling difficult physical sensations, feelings and moods that often accompany depression, anxiety, stress.
The core skill that you will learn is mindfulness – a way of paying attention, on purpose and non-judgementally, to what goes on in the present moment in your body, mind, and the world around you. The approach is holistic and practical, and integrate different therapeutic principles from Mindfulness, Gestalt and Cognitive therapies.
How can Mindfulness Meditation help?
Mindfulness may enable you to see things differently, undo mental and physical tensions, increase your sense of personal confidence of having more options and more strength to face various challenges in your life.
Lasting benefits of learning mindfulness include:
- More energy and enthusiasm
- Greater capacity for relaxation
- Increased ability to handle stressful situations
- Being more present in ones daily life
What does the MBCT course involve?
The course consists of 1.5 hour classes for 6 consecutive weeks with a follow up class four weeks later (7 classes in total). You will learn mindfulness practices and have a chance to discuss these and your experience of them in the group. Home practice is an important part of the course, and you will be asked to do 15-20 minutes of this, six days per week, between each class. To get the most of the programme you need to work at it. This requires a strong commitment to work with you through a gentle but rigorous daily discipline of awareness exercises.
